Data Breach at Sally Beauty Officially Confirmed

A previous report of a data breach that occurred at Sally Beauty, one of the largest U.S. retailers of cosmetics and beauty supplies, was confirmed on Monday by the retailer in an official statement. Previously, the Denton, Texas-based retailer had confirmed a breach, but said it had no evidence that card data was stolen in the break-in. In the statement on Monday the company acknowledged it had in fact discovered evidence that “fewer than 25,000 records containing card present (track 2) payment card data have been illegally accessed on our systems and we believe have been removed.”

As Krebs On Security mentions, this confirmation comes almost two weeks after the first report on this. On March 5th, hackers gained unauthorized access to Sally Beauty’s network and had stolen at least 282,000 cards from the retailer.
