ASUS Live Update Infected with Backdoor in Supply Chain Attack

A new advanced persistent threat (APT) campaign detected byKaspersky Lab in January 2019 and estimated to have run betweenJune and November 2018 has allegedly impacted over one million users who have downloaded theASUS Live Update Utility on their computers.

Kaspersky Lab’s Global Research and Analysis (GReAT) team named this malicious campaignOperation ShadowHammerand, as initially reported by Kim Zetter, it is supposed to have led to thebackdoored version of ASUS Live Update being downloaded and installed by more than 57,000 Kaspersky users.
